Survey Ranking: Top Super App in Southeast Asia in 2022

The emergence of “super apps” in Southeast Asia over the past few years has been partly driven by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In January 2022, market research firm Ipsos published a report based on a survey of three,500 digital service customers aged 18 and over in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

According to research, 51% of Southeast Asians said they’re shopping online more often, and 1 in 2 said they pay using digital wallets or other cashless methods. According to a recent Ipsos survey, 82 percent of digital service users in Southeast Asia have ordered food delivery, and 43 percent have used passenger transport services.

As a result, Grab was named the very best super app or super app in Southeast Asia, closely followed by Shopee and Lazada.

“We shortlist super app candidates in each country and then compare user ratings based on four main metrics, namely user experience, engagement, awareness and usability,” explained Soeprapto Tan, managing director of Ipsos in Indonesia, as quoted by Newsdelivers. comm.

A brilliant app is an app that provides a wide range of services to fulfill different requirements. According to the report, Ipsos defines an excellent app as one that provides greater than three digital services, corresponding to transportation (passenger transportation), e-commerce, payments, food delivery, grocery shopping and other services. No social media apps were included on this study.

It has created a collection of super apps in each country based on the next criteria.

With a mean rating of 63 across all six countries surveyed, Grab is taken into account the very best mega app. Singapore and Vietnam had the best Grab rating, followed by Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.

With a mean total rating of 52, Shopee took second place, followed by Lazada (42), Gojek (22), Tokopedia (14), Traveloka (12), AirAsia (10), BliBli, BukaLapak and JDID (10), GCash (8 ), eWallet Touch n Go (7), Lineman (6), Bee (5) and Zig (5).

Ipsos also provides detailed survey results for every key indicator.

User experience metrics evaluate app usability and user experience, and the rating relies on many aspects, including discoverability, reliability, ease of access, and security. In this test, Grab outperformed other super apps, followed by Shopee, Lazada and Gojek.

The popularity of every super app is then determined by its awareness rate. The result is dependent upon two aspects: highest awareness and total awareness, which is what Super App users are most aware of. The hottest super app was Grab, followed by Shopee and Lazada.
