Update on the pandemic: Vietnam recommends using these two vaccines

Vietnam plans to accumulate 150 million doses as a part of its Covid-19 vaccination program because the health ministry said a medical panel had really helpful it approve Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine and the Moderna vaccine to be used within the Southeast Asian country.

The 150 million doses will include each those purchased directly and people obtained through the COVAX vaccine-sharing program, in accordance with the ruling published on the federal government’s website.

Vietnam on Wednesday received its first batch of 117,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine ahead of the planned rollout of its vaccination program next month.

Russian news agency Interfax reported on Friday that the Sputnik V vaccine had been approved, although Vietnam’s health ministry said a medical panel had really helpful its use together with Moderna Inc’s American vaccine.

The consent of the Ministry of Health is required for the acquisition and use of vaccines within the country. Late last month, Vietnam approved the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said the health ministry and corporations were in talks to purchase more vaccines, including Sputnik V and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

“Vietnam wants to have access to sources of high-quality Covid-19 vaccines at reasonable prices and appropriate to Vietnam’s storage conditions,” Hang said at a news conference on Thursday.

The government ruling said frontline staff, security forces, diplomats, teachers and folks aged 65 or older could be among the many first to be vaccinated freed from charge.

Vietnam was praised around the globe for its performance in containing the virus for long periods last 12 months through mass testing, tracing and strict quarantine, even though it has recently faced a wave of infections.

Since the outbreak of the most recent outbreak last month, the country has recorded 827 latest cases of Covid-19, accounting for a couple of third of the entire variety of 2,421 infections. Only 35 deaths from the virus have been reported.
