The coach’s attention made the scholar feel special, regardless that he told her that because he was married, they might only be in an “unofficial” relationship, Santhra stated.

Sometime after the girl turned 15, the coach texted her a checklist of intimate questions that included whether she had kissed anyone and whether she had had sexual activity before.

The court heard that while she felt awkward receiving such words from her coach, she was “not surprised” because she knew he liked her.

The trainer then asked if he could have sexual activity along with her, but she refused.

The coach then endured, adding that he was “sad that he wasn’t the primary to have sex along with her,” and he or she eventually agreed.

At that point, the coach was aware that the college was investigating him for sending inappropriate private messages to students, and consequently he terminated his employment contract as a college coach.

Sometime between September 10 and 14, 2019, the teenager met with a trainer at a sports club, where they engaged in sexual activities, including sexual activity.

Before they broke up, the teenager asked his coach why he removed the condom during sex.

The trainer laughed back at her and told her he “didn’t feel so nice” when he wore it.

The coach and the teenager communicated via private messages after she expressed concerns about getting pregnant, told her “she didn’t must worry” and asked if they might meet as much as have sexual activity again.

During the session, the trainer kissed her and asked if she could perform a sex act on him, to which she agreed.

Santhra said the girl agreed to sexual activities with the trainer because she was grateful for his kindness.

Then they eventually broke up and only contacted one another occasionally via text messages.

After two sexual encounters, the teenager began to appreciate what her coach had done was inappropriate and sent him a text saying she felt “dirty” due to what had happened between them.

She hoped to get an apology from him because she wanted closure.

However, the coach refused to apologize and told her that what he did was to “deal with her.”

“This all happened while he was still her badminton coach.”

The man abused his trust as, amongst others, AND coach because even after the college terminated his employment, he continued to take care of contact with the victim and supply private coaching services.

In looking for a lighter sentence, defense lawyer Yamuna Balakrishnan said there was no breach of trust on the a part of her client because he was now not a badminton coach and had limited authority or influence as a coach when he committed the sexual acts.

“He did not pressure her or force her to engage in sexual acts,” Yamuna said.

However, District Judge Lim Tse Haw disagreed and identified that the breach of trust began when he politely groomed the victim sexually.

“When she was approximately 13 years old, there was considerable premeditation in sexual grooming, which led to him engaging in an intimate relationship with her, holding her hands in public places and hugging and kissing her in the car,” he said.
