Royal Brunei Airlines opens a brand new path to Lombok

Royal Brunei Airlines is about to open a brand new route from Bandar Seri Begawan to Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara this 12 months. The national carrier of Brunei Darussalam currently operates three flight routes in Indonesia: Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar. The planned opening of the brand new route can be Royal Brunei Airlines’ fourth service within the country.

The undeniable fact that Lombok won multiple halal awards on the World Halal Tourism Awards in 2016 and 2017 is considered one of the the explanation why Royal Brunei plans to open this recent route. Royal Brunei Airlines CEO Brett McDougall says as a primary step, the airline will conduct a study to make sure that West Nusa Tenggara’s full capability will have the option to support the opening of the brand new route.

Muhammad Amin, deputy governor of West Nusa Tenggara, welcomes Royal Brunei’s plans because the province is currently working on a halal tourism campaign and sees it as having the potential to draw more tourists from the Middle East and other Muslim-majority countries. “We are currently exploring the possibility of adding domestic and international flight routes,” he said.

He also added that the brand new flight route could have an effect on the tourism industry because it could increase the variety of tourists, each domestic and foreign. “It could also add and simplify the entry point for business investment in the province in the future,” he said.

As Lombok is a world airport, the carrier can also be considering opening more international routes from Lombok, including: to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and China.

“We are also open to flights from Lombok to Europe,” McDougall added.
