Malaysian Muhammad Haiqal crowned “sprint king” in Southeast Asia

National sprinter Muhammad Haiqal Hanafi was today crowned Southeast Asia’s ‘Sprint King’ after winning gold in the lads’s 100m final on the New Clark City Athletics Stadium.

The 20-year-old Tunku Mahkota Ismail sports school student achieved a time of 10.35 seconds and won the Blue Ribbon competition, thus defending the Malaysian gold won at home by Khairul Hafiz Jantan in 2017.

Silver and bronze were won by Thai sprinters Sowan Ruttanapon dan Chuangchai Bandit, with a time of 10.49 and 10.52 seconds, respectively.

Meanwhile, national sprinter Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli took only sixth place in the ladies’s 100-meter final with a time of 11.84 seconds.

The race was won by Vietnamese Le Tu Chinh with a time of 11.54 seconds, followed by host sprinter Kristina Marie Knott (11.55 seconds) and Singaporean Shanti Veronica Pereira with a time of 11.66 seconds.
