One of the preferred destinations within the province, this gem in northern Palawan is claimed to outpace the capital city of Puerto Princesa, which boasts a UNESCO-listed Underground River, by way of tourist arrivals.
The Coron Natural Biotic Area is included within the Natural category on the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.
On approach to Francisco B. Reyes Airport, you’re struck by the variety of islands dotting the ocean; coral reefs visible through crystal clear water; hilly landscape and red soil; fields are greener, rice leaves are greener.
There are two Coronas – a first-class municipality covering two-thirds of the island of Busuanga, the biggest within the Kalamian archipelago; and an island 20 minutes away by speedboat, the third largest. The city is the business capital of Calamianes. The island is the ancestral domain of the Tagbanua.

Better deal
Vergara says Coron is a a lot better deal than other area of interest tourist destinations where attractions and scenery are limited and you might feel full after two or three days of stay. In the case of Corona and the encompassing area, it looks as if you may’t get enough of them.
Plus, when you live in Manila, it’s closer than other exotic islands and it’s cheaper too.
As Vergara reveals, several Boracay outlets have recently opened in Coron. And upscale properties are cheaper than comparable properties in Boracay.

Afternoon city tour includes Lualhati Park, Reclamation Area with Shipyard and Market, Square, Souvenir Shop, Kasuy Factory, Church of St. Augustine on sloping terrain, the new springs of Maquinit and at last the conquest of Mt. Tapyas.
The grassy peak is topped with a whitewashed giant cross and the letters “Coron”, illuminated at night. Tourists flock here to view the sunset, the layout of the town below, and the neighboring islands.
