“I am a photographer, so I take my camera everywhere and take photos. When I travel, I try not to spend a lot of money. Instead, I just walk around and take nice photos of the places I visit,” he says.
For the 30-year-old singer, the perfect vacation is to go to a place where she can escape the glitz and glamor that comes with being an internationally renowned recording artist.
“A great vacation is one I spend alone or with my family. It’s a not too crowded place where I can learn about its history, he reveals.
“I visited many places, but the most memorable ones were Istanbul, Bali, Milan, Egypt, and Zurich,” she adds. Yuna also counts Asian countries amongst her favorite places to loosen up.
“Bali, Kuching Sarawak, Penang and The Datai Langkawi!” answers the query about favorite places on this region. Yuna adds that the beach, food and other people make these places special to her.
Yuna recalls her most memorable vacation, which she spent along with her best friends in Bali to have fun the New Year.
“We went to Uluwatu and then found a really nice villa where we just chilled and relaxed for the entire trip,” he reveals.
Which holiday in Asia was the happiest for her?
“It was at The Datai Langkawi with my parents.
“I took them there and we rented a beautiful villa on a private beach. It was really beautiful.
“We were surrounded by nature. I love it!” she says.
Born Yunalis Zarai in Alor Setar, Kedah, the law graduate spent some time living in Perlis. During her stay in the smallest state of Malaysia, her adventure with Thai cuisine began.
No wonder she said she would go to Thailand in a heartbeat – just to enjoy the food.
“I lived in Perlis for a long time. We ate delicious Thai food growing up because we lived so close to the Thai border. I love Thai food,” he says.
Throughout her impressive music profession, Yuna has collaborated with stars corresponding to Pharrell, Usher and Jhené Aiko. Her third international album was released in December last yr Chapters was included in the highest ten best R&B albums of 2016 by Billboard magazine.
Although he currently lives within the United States (mainly in Los Angeles), Malaysia remains to be home. So if she were to be a tourist guide for per week, where would she take her guests?
“I took them to Jalan Alor (in Kuala Lumpur) for seafood, then took them to Pahang to an elephant sanctuary and then to one of our beautiful islands. I actually did this before with some friends who came to visit Italy,” she says.
More seriously, Yuna hopes that Asian countries will work together to scale back waste.
“I’ve been to beaches where there was a lot of garbage. Our corals are dying because of waste thrown into the ocean.
“I also hope that we will find a way to reduce the use of plastic bottles,” he says.
“I feel like we are slowly getting there… for example through recycling and banning the use of Styrofoam containers.”
Additionally, the musician has some advice for travelers to the Asian region: “Keep an open mind and be patient – there may be a language barrier and the weather can really test you. Avoid tourist areas; try to go where the locals love to hang out. Other than that, just enjoy the journey!”
