Taiwan sees record variety of tourists

According to last 12 months’s data, a record 10.69 million tourists visited Taiwan, a rise of two.4 percent. in comparison with 2015. Directorate General for Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

The variety of tourists visiting from countries aside from China rose by almost 15 percent to 7.18 million. Significant numbers got here from Japan, which saw a 16.5 percent increase in Taiwanese tourists to 1.9 million, and South Korea, which rose 34 percent to 880,000. Japan and South Korea accounted for 18 percent and eight percent of all visitors, respectively.

What’s more, Taiwan’s easing of visa restrictions on other countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, also appears to have helped offset the decline in Chinese tourists. Last 12 months, there have been double-digit increases in tourists from Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia.

Total:

  • 2016: Total visits to Taiwan 10,690,000
  • 2.4% increase since 2015

From China:

  • Number of tourists from China: 3,510,000
  • It accounts for the most important variety of tourists; 32.9% of all visitors
  • Compared to 2015, a decrease of 16.1%

From Japan and Korea:

  • Tourists coming from countries aside from China total 7,180,000 people
  • It represents a rise of 14.8% in comparison with 2015
  • Japan: 1,900,000 total visitors; 17.7% of all visitors and a rise of 16.5% over 2015
  • South Korea: Total 880,000 visitors; 8.3% of all visitors and a rise of 34.3% in comparison with 2015

Southeast Asia:

  • Increase within the number of holiday makers in comparison with 2015
  • Thailand up 57.3%
  • Vietnam increase by 34.3%
  • Philippines up 23.9%
  • Malaysia up 10.0%
  • Indonesia up 6.2%
