According to a study by Agoda, a world online travel booking platform, Thailand is the most well-liked destination in Asia for European tourists, followed by Indonesia and Japan, that are also popular destinations. Additionally, Malaysia and the Philippines stand out with significant search patterns for beach holidays.
According to Pierre Honne, Senior Country Manager for Agoda Thailand, “Phuket is becoming probably the most desirable hotel destination for European travelers on Agoda, right behind Bangkok and Krabi. These destinations stand out because they provide recreational activities, adventures and enriching cultural experiences that attract tourists from all around the world, especially through the long summer holidays.
European tourists have change into a dominant force in southern Thailand’s tourism industry, in line with the Bangkok Post, leading to record-high hotel occupancy rates, with stays lasting weeks. Tourists from Russia, Scandinavia and Germany, drawn by the region’s natural beauty, are major contributors to occupancy rates which have reached 90% or more.
Agoda’s data also shows a 52% year-on-year increase in Asian hotel searches by European travelers on its platform, with the vast majority of those searches coming from countries just like the UK, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
The growing interest of European tourists in Asian destinations is having a positive impact on the region’s tourism industry. Furthermore, as travel restrictions ease and other people crave latest experiences, Asia’s diverse attractions proceed to draw large numbers of international travellers.
The economic impact of the surge in tourism is important, with prospects for GDP growth and job creation in these countries. Easing travel restrictions also opens the door to investment in tourism infrastructure development and changes the direction of worldwide tourism trends.
