The Thai government has expanded its free Thailand Traveller Safety travel insurance program to all foreign travelers. Initially launched on January 1, this system was set to finish on August 31, 2024, but has been prolonged to December 31, 2024.
Thailand Traveller Safety (TTS) is a complicated registration system for non-Thai tourists entering Thailand, developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. This system ensures legal protection and compliance with Thai regulations during their visit.
The prolonged insurance program provides financial protection in various emergency situations. It covers emergencies corresponding to accidents, crimes and natural disasters, giving international visitors additional peace of mind during their stay in Thailand.
Thailand Traveler Safety Insurance provides significant protection for foreign tourists. In the event of a fatal accident, the deceased’s family can receive compensation of as much as 1 million baht. In the event of an accident leading to the lack of organs or everlasting disability, coverage is as much as 300,000 baht, while medical expenses resulting from accidents are covered as much as 500,000 baht.
Sermsak Pongpanit, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, stressed the importance of expanding the free travel insurance program to support the security and well-being of foreign tourists.
Thailand is taking proactive steps to welcome a wave of tourists. The goal variety of foreign tourist arrivals in 2024 has been raised to 36.7 million, a results of favourable visa policies and intensive tourism promotion activities.
Thailand’s successful visa policy and tourism promotion efforts have successfully attracted foreign tourists, leading to a major increase in visitor arrivals. This resulted in a 37% increase in foreign tourist arrivals in the primary half of this 12 months, reaching 15.5 million visitors.
