This PETRONAS The Twin Towers symbolize our culture and progress on the world stage. This is clear in the mixture of local art and cutting-edge innovation. Interior motifs reflect local crafts and weaving patterns, while chrome steel and glass beautifully mix as Islamic patterns.
The design of every Tower floor plate relies on easy Islamic geometric types of two interlocking squares, creating the form of eight-pointed stars. Architecturally, these forms describe essential Islamic principles of “unity in unity, harmony, stability and rationality.”
The towers are “smart” structures, built using a system that seamlessly coordinates telecommunications, environmental controls, power, lighting, fire and smoke control, and constructing security.
Peaks
These structures house aircraft warning lights and external maintenance equipment.
Each peak consists of a spire composed of 23 segments and an annular sphere composed of 14 rings of various diameters.
External
Each tower is ready back five times in its elevation to keep up the vertical axis and taper of the design. The partitions of the highest floors are also tilted inward to taper and meet the highest.
The towers feature multi-faceted partitions fabricated from 33,000 chrome steel panels and 55,000 glass panels. Vision Glass, a specialized panel with light-filtering and noise-reducing properties, provides a cushty indoor environment. The glass is roofed with chrome steel screens to further protect guests from the tropical sun.
Interior
The patterns and designs of the doorway hall reflect traditional handicrafts and “songket” or weaving. In addition, the wall panels and screens are also inspired by the hardwood carvings from the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The floor patterns are based on the intricate patterns of pandan weaving and the wall mats from the bertam palm.
Elevators
The Towers houses 29 two-story high-speed passenger elevators, six heavy-duty service elevators, and 4 executive elevators. The floors are divided into zones: two sets of six two-story elevators serve levels 1 to 23 and 1 to 37, while one other set of 5 two-story elevators take passengers on to the Sky Lobby. Here, passengers take one other elevator to the upper zones.
The executive lifts are the longest in any office constructing in Malaysia, servicing every floor from the underground automobile park to the highest of the towers in 90 seconds.
Each passenger deck can carry 26 people, for a complete of 52, while the chief lifts can carry a median of 10 people. Their speed ranges from 3.5 m/s to six.0 m/s, depending on the zones served.
