French consortium to deliver Hanoi metro

The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Authority has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Alstom to construct the third metro line in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Alstom, Colas Rail and Thales have signed a contract with Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) to provide the metro system for Line 3, which is anticipated to enter business operation in late 2021.

The 12.5km Hanoi Line 3 is the second metro line under construction in the town. Once operational, the road is anticipated to hold 10,000 people per hour and direction (PPHPD). Capacity is anticipated to progressively increase over the subsequent 10 years.

The contract will see the development of 12 stations and one maintenance station in Nhon. Alstom will supply and integrate the metro system, which consists of 10 Metropolis trains, its Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) Urbalis 400 solution – which controls train movements, allowing them to run at higher frequencies and speeds in a secure manner, and the ability supply and equipment for the stations along with Colas Rail.
