Operational trials of Bangkok’s pink MRT line, using Alstom’s Innovia automated monorail system for passenger transport, have begun.
The 34.5 km long Pink Line with 30 stations connects the densely populated areas of Khae Rai and Min Buri. This service reduced travel times between these destinations by 50%, enabling journeys to be accomplished in lower than an hour.
The Pink Line also connects to 5 other railway lines in Bangkok. There are plans to expand the road with two additional stations by 2025 to enhance connectivity between Bangkok and Nonthaburi.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin officially launched this latest rail service on November 21. The line is currently undergoing a public trial and might be offered freed from charge until the tip of December 2023.
Following the successful completion of the trial period, the Pink Line paid MRT service is scheduled to launch in January 2024. The Pink Line MRT is a driverless monorail, traveling at speeds of as much as 80 km per hour and able to carrying over 470,000 passengers every day.
A digital display signals the arrival of trains every 8-10 minutes. Trains run from 6:00 to 22:00. Once launched, ticket prices are expected to range from THB 15 to THB 45 ($0.43-1.29).
The driverless monorail system operates at an operating speed of 80 km/h and the rolling stock consists of 42 sets of four-car Innovia monorail trains. The fleet might be provided by Alstom’s three way partnership, CRRC Puzhen Alstom Transportation Systems Limited (PATS).
