In the Central Java Regency in Klaten, Indonesia, there are small workshops producing miniatures from leftover wood. Products are sold far beyond the region, to customers living as distant as Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Iran and Turkey.

Several villages in Klaten are home to the miniature industry, but essentially the most famous are Blanceran and Brangkal within the Karanganom district. There are as many as 15 miniature workshops in these villages, employing about 150 people.
Klaten’s hottest miniatures are the Beetle and Harley Davidson models. In a month, one village could produce as much as 20,000 units, sold at prices starting from 10,000 rupees (75 US cents) to 50,000 rupees each.
