On Sunday, October 20, 2024, on the Indonesian Parliament Complex, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were officially inaugurated as President and Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia.
They became the eighth president and fourteenth vice chairman to assume their positions after being sworn in in the course of the plenary session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), starting their 2024–2029 term.
The inauguration took place on the premise of the choice of the General Electoral Commission (KPU) No. 504 of 2024, which announced them as President and Vice-President within the 2024 general elections.
The plenary session began at 10:00 Central European Time (WIB) with the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, followed by a minute of silence to honor Indonesia’s national heroes.

MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani officially opened the session, after which Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the oath as leaders of the country. Prabowo’s oath emphasized his commitment to leading the nation in accordance with the Constitution and fulfilling his duties with integrity and honesty.
Prabowo confidently pronounced the oath:
“By Allah, I swear that I’ll faithfully perform the duties of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the most effective of my ability, in probably the most honest manner possible, upholding the Constitution and all laws, and dedicating myself to the nation and folks.”
Similarly, Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the oath as Vice President, pledging to support President Prabowo in serving the nation.
After the oath-taking ceremony, President Prabowo and Vice-President Gibran signed the official inauguration document within the presence of MPR management. The signed document was then forwarded to the President and Vice-President, marking the start of their presidency for the 2024-2029 term.
The president’s first speech
Before closing the plenary session, President Prabowo delivered his first state speech to the assembly. His speech, which lasted roughly 58 minutes, touched on five key areas that he and Vice President Gibran wanted to deal with while in power.
In his speech, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestinian independence, emphasizing that Indonesia must show empathy for oppressed peoples. He also passionately called on people to tackle the challenges facing the country, including corruption and social inequality.
Additionally, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of food self-sufficiency, unity and democracy, in addition to his administration’s commitment to fighting poverty. These priorities were outlined in front of parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries present on the inauguration.

An impressive variety of international delegates attended the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice-President Gibran.
A complete of 35 countries, including friendly countries and ASEAN partners, sent representatives, including heads of state, former presidents and special envoys. Their presence was a source of pride and an indication of respect for Indonesia and its government.
