The announcement of Starlink’s expansion to the Philippines in February got everyone’s attention. Companies are fascinated with the web service now that it is quickly available available in the market, and a few are even desperate to test it. One of them is Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club, which debuted on March 1.
SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation’s vp for technical support and services, Eric Uy, says the corporate simply wants to offer its guests with the perfect service possible.
According to Uy, access to fast and reliable web services is important for today’s travelers who need to stay connected while traveling. “We aim to exceed expectations by being the first to implement appropriate technologies that discreetly enhance the guest experience as well as the hospitality for which Pico de Loro is renowned.”
Providing satellite broadband services to businesses and the federal government, billionaire Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX) will enter the Philippines in October 2022.
Data Lake Inc, a Philippines-based company partly owned by tycoon Henry Sy Jr, said it has signed an agreement to grow to be SpaceX’s first Starlink partner in Southeast Asia.
According to Data Lake CEO Anthony Almeda, the Philippines is an archipelago, so connecting it to the remainder of the world often requires significant infrastructure investment.
The Philippines is made up of over 7,600 islands, a lot of that are isolated and mountainous, making it difficult for businesses to access broadband. Additionally, the country is usually hit by 20 tropical storms annually, a lot of which cause infrastructure damage and disrupt contact between provinces and islands.
SpaceX’s Starlink service uses a network of tens of hundreds of satellites to offer Internet access in distant areas or when communications fail because of a natural disaster.
