MAXstream’s Indonesian original movies reach international markets in several ASEAN countries

The film industry managed to bounce back from the challenges posed by the epidemic because of strong growth in online subscriptions and the creation of unique content for streaming platforms.

The combined cinema, home entertainment and mobile entertainment markets accounted for 72% of total revenues in 2021, up from 46% in 2019, based on the Motion Picture Association’s annual report.

It is estimated that this number will increase this 12 months. Many people consider that the dramatic increase in streaming could permanently change viewing preferences and hasten the extinction of conventional cinema.

The high-quality movies that Indonesian filmmakers are famous for are capitalizing on this trend. Thanks to the vast, powerful and growing digital market, many movies have been created and shown on digital media, reaching thousands and thousands of viewers.

MAXStream is one among the latest.

MAXstream is an Indonesian production company and subscription streaming service that gives movies and other video libraries through distribution deals along with its works, called Maxstream Originals.

MAXstream Originals equivalent to Merindu Cahaya De Amstel, Eyang Putri, Kajeng Kliwon and most recently Mengejar Surga have successfully entered the worldwide market. Since then, several of those movies have been screened in several ASEAN countries, including Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand.

With this achievement, we now have shown that MAXstream can compete with other OTT platforms in Indonesia by offering customers high-quality digital entertainment content, says Nirwan Lesmana, Vice President of Digital Lifestyle at Telkomsel.

MAXstream and Indonesian filmmakers have also demonstrated that Indonesian film works are competitive and have a spot in the worldwide market.

“Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” is a MAXstream original production, which is showing in cinemas in Malaysia and Brunei from May 12, 2022. Millions of Indonesians were fascinated with the film before its release abroad since it relies on a real story and was inspired by Arumi E.’s novel of the identical name.

The highest-grossing film of early 2022 was Merindu Cahaya De Amstel, which was watched by over 400,000 in cinemas. viewers, and on the MAXstream platform it received over 2 million views in only two weeks.

In June, shortly after its premiere in Indonesian cinemas, the most recent original work distributed by MAXstream, “Mengejar Surga”, can even have its theatrical premiere in Malaysia and Brunei.

Additionally, the unique horror film “Kajeng Kliwon” will likely be shown in cinemas in Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand under the international title “Nightmare in Bali”. Additionally, Astro, Malaysia’s local OTT platform, now offers “Eyang Putri”, a horror-themed MAXstream original.
