Liu Youcai, 58, was preparing a chicken cutlet around 1 p.m. (local time) at his stall in the town of Kangsar when he suddenly collapsed, Malaysian newspaper China Press reported.
The unconscious Liu buried his face within the wok. Liu’s assistant called for help and, with the assistance of other stalls on the grocery store, managed to avoid wasting him, China Press reports.
Liu was still respiration at the moment and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Kuala Kangsar. According to China Press, he was pronounced dead at 2:21 p.m.

Local funeral home Chee Hong Funeral Management Services released details of the service for Liu together with photos of him.
China Press published footage from the scene after the accident, showing rescuers caring for Liu.
Liu’s brother, Liu Youming, told Malaysia’s Sinchew News that the autopsy report listed the reason for death as suffocation and second-degree burns attributable to smoke inhalation.
Liu Youming told Sinchew News that Liu was diagnosed with hypertension and high cholesterol before his death.
People have been posting tributes on social media to Liu, whom they’ve nicknamed “Big Brother Cai.”
“I will always remember the taste of your chicken rice. Thank you for bringing me such delicious chicken rice and yet giving it to me at a low price,” one person wrote.

According to Liu’s funeral home, the funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
An analogous incident occurred in 2021 when a 25-year-old chef in Iraq fell right into a large vat of broth he was preparing for a marriage.
He suffered third-degree burns on his body and died five days later.
