Jokowi introduces the omnibus bill on the 2020 World Economic Forum

Jokowi, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, joins the World Economic Forum (WEF) virtual dialogue with 50 global business leaders.

What is the World Economic Forum?

WEF is the World Economic Forum and the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. The forum engages top political, business, cultural and other leaders to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
It was founded in 1971 as a non-profit foundation and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
At this forum, Mr. Jokowi promoted the Job Creation Act, i.e. the Omnibus Act, and the coronavirus situation. This event took place on November 25, 2020 in individual countries.
Joko Widodo referred to the thought of ​​the Indonesia Job Creation Law, emphasizing on helping and improving the country’s investment within the country’s investment climate and the federal government’s commitment to the involvement and contribution of personal entities that may restore a stronger economic situation, because as everyone knows, that it’s currently unstable because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Significant support from the business community in [the law’s] implementation is crucial because it is going to add value to the federal government’s efforts in coping with the pandemic and support economic recovery in a sustainable and synergistic way,” he said on the opening of the World Economy Forum.
Mr Jokowi is accompanied on the conference by Erick Thohir (State-owned enterprises), Retno Marsudi (Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Luhut Pandjaitan (Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment).

As the biggest economy in Southeast Asia, which has been in financial difficulties and recession since 1998, the Indonesian government is attempting to anticipate this by creating an omnibus law or a job creation law in today’s pandemic situation.
The government is removing and amending 1000’s of provisions in about 80 laws, easing the licensing process and relaxing labor regulations, which can ultimately attract investment after which create more jobs.
Today, the Covid-19 pandemic is intensifying within the second round of the wave. The economy contracted by 3.49 percent within the third quarter. Earlier within the second quarter it was 5.32%. Therefore, the federal government hopes that the situation will improve by the point doctors fight Covid-19.
The government says the omnibus bill is predicted to revive Indonesia’s economy.
