President Halimah of Singapore pays his first state visit to Indonesia

According to “Indonesia”, President Halimah Yacob arrived in Indonesia tomorrow for a four-day state visit from February 3-6. Asia News Channel.

The President’s visit began within the capital Jakarta, where she met along with her Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo, visited a humanitarian project launched by the Singapore International Foundation and met with Indonesian religious and interfaith leaders, in addition to with Singaporeans abroad.

Madam Halimah can even travel to Yogyakarta, a city about an hour’s flight east of Jakarta, often called the middle of Indonesian culture and heritage.

She will then travel to Yogyakarta, where she can be received for dinner by Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

“The President can even hold a dialogue with students of Gadjah Mada University and visit BLOCK71@Yogyakarta, a start-up incubator community established by NUS Enterprise in partnership with the Salim Group,” Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The visit takes place on the invitation of President Joko, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in an announcement today.

Madam Halimah was speaking at a joint press conference along with her Indonesian counterpart President Joko Widodo held on the Istana in Bogor.

In his remarks, President Joko reaffirmed the close ties between the 2 countries and thanked Singapore for its continued support to Indonesia.

Earlier, they witnessed the signing of an updated double taxation avoidance agreement between the 2 countries.

In the present climate of world economic uncertainty, further efforts are needed to strengthen relations between Singapore and Indonesia, Singapore President Halimah Yacob said on Tuesday (February 4), as reported by the web site Times of the Strait.

Reaffirming the “deep, long-standing and multi-faceted” relationship between the 2 countries that has lasted for over 50 years, Ms. Halimah highlighted several areas of cooperation, including the economy, human resource development and people-to-people ties.

“As good neighbors, our two countries have seized opportunities and faced challenges together,” she said.
