Go-Jek spokesman Michael Reza Say says the homegrown ride-hailing app will expand to Singapore this 12 months, after moving to Vietnam and Thailand.
“We will [expand to Singapore] this 12 months, but we cannot provide any details about it yet,” he said on Friday, as quoted by Tempo.
The Indonesian shipping company can even open a branch within the Philippines, in line with its website. These countries are a part of the second wave of the regional expansion plan into Southeast Asian countries.
Previously, Go-Jek announced in June that it had began its first wave of expansion by opening branches in Vietnam and Thailand.
This month, the corporate will begin the beta testing phase of the Vietnamese version of the app called GO-VIET with drivers and consumers, and can officially launch shortly thereafter.
Meanwhile, Go-Jek is consulting with Thai stakeholders – which include the federal government, drivers and consumers – before launching the Thai version of Go-Jek called GET after its launch in Vietnam.
The company will showcase transportation and logistics services in Vietnam and Thailand before opening food delivery and electronic payment services.
Go-Jek founder and CEO Nadiem Makarim said in a press release on its website that expansion into Vietnam and Thailand would require bringing in local talent to create an organization that understands the needs of its customers in addition to ensuring the sustainability of the business.
Go-Jek has committed $500 million in funds raised from Astra International, Warburg Pincus, KKR, Meituan-Dianping, Tencent, Google and Temasek, amongst others, following its latest round of fundraising last 12 months.
