For the primary time, Manila was chosen because the world’s leading destination within the World Travel Awards 2023. The Philippines also won the Global Tourism Resilience Award in recognition of its “global leadership, pioneering vision and innovation to beat critical challenges and adversities.”
The country is considered one of five recipients of the inaugural award, which is able to function a benchmark in implementing best practices in constructing tourism resilience.
The World Travel Awards, often called the “Oscars” of the travel industry, took place on December 1 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The awards were received by Undersecretary for Tourism Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Deputy Secretary Maria Rica Bueno, who represented the Secretary of Tourism at this international event.
In total, the Philippines won 4 global awards, including retaining the title of World’s Leading Diving Destination and World’s Leading Beach Destination in 2022.
The success was praised by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, who emphasized the contribution of tourism to the country’s economic growth. Congratulations were also sent by the Manila Public Information Office, which announced the town’s award in a Facebook post.
Since 1993, the World Travel Awards have been a platform to honor key players within the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
