The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is preparing to send aid value 2.9 billion rupiah in the shape of medical equipment to the people of Gaza. PMI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, plans to send this aid through Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport on Tuesday (October 31).
In an announcement released on Monday (October 30), AM Fakhir, Secretary-General of PMI, said the help, which was organized under the instructions of PMI Chairman Jusuf Kalli, is geared toward supporting the needs of the people in Gaza.
Fachir explained that within the initial phase, assistance will cover 10 forms of equipment, including: oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, N95 masks, respirators, latex gloves, aprons, baby supplies, hygiene kits, infectious body bags and generators.
In addition to medical equipment, PMI also plans to send a water purifier with a drinking water production capability of 1,500 to 2,000 liters per hour.
Meanwhile, on Monday (October 30), at a virtual press conference, Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced plans to send Indonesian first responders to Gaza, Palestine, this week. This aid is the results of cooperation between the federal government, entrepreneurs and society.
Previously, UN reports highlighted difficulties in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza resulting from the entire blockade imposed by Israel. Recently, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 33 humanitarian aid trucks entered Gaza, Palestine, through the Rafah border crossing on Sunday. The trucks carried various forms of aid, including water, food and medical equipment.
Commenting on the situation, the President emphasized that Indonesia continues to closely monitor the developments within the Gaza Strip and may be very concerned concerning the deteriorating conditions within the region, especially from a humanitarian viewpoint.
In his statement, the President clearly and unequivocally emphasized that the country strongly condemns the indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects in Gaza. He added that Indonesia continues to speak with various parties to search out an answer to the situation. The president also said there should be an instantaneous end to the violence, continued ceasefire efforts, and increased and accelerated humanitarian aid efforts.
