According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism, the country saw the arrival of roughly 19 million foreign tourists from January to September 17 this 12 months. Thanks to those visits, the country managed to generate revenue of roughly 795 billion baht (similar to $22.26 billion).
In a press release, the ministry said the state of Thailand’s tourism sector was showing signs of improvement. It also said that the federal government’s visa waiver policy for Chinese tourists is predicted to supply a further boost to the tourism industry.
Tourist arrivals are expected to proceed to extend because the tourism industry enters its peak season, especially during long weekends, from tourism source countries resembling Malaysia and Japan.
The recent Thai government has also planned activities to extend the variety of tourist arrivals, announcing an exemption from the visa requirement for tourists coming from China and Kazakhstan from September 25 to the tip of February.
It is essential to notice that the tourism sector is the second largest economic driver in Southeast Asia. The government estimates that roughly 28 million tourists will visit this 12 months.
For comparison, in 2019, roughly 39.9 million foreign tourists will come to Thailand, of which 11 million will come from China. The government has already announced a goal of attracting five million Chinese tourists this 12 months.
