According to Bahlil Lahadalia, Indonesia’s Minister of Investment, he’s confident that the country could have built an ecosystem of batteries utilized in electric vehicles by the point the primary batch is produced in early 2024.
On Friday, he stated on the Presidential Palace: “We have made several arrangements to be certain that the event of the (electric) automobile battery ecosystem can proceed to operate. Our production is planned to begin in the primary half of 2024 on the (factory) developed by LG in Karawang.
After participating in a brief discussion on the event of the electrical vehicle (EV) ecosystem, chaired by President Joko Widodo, he made the announcement.
The second is the ecosystem between CATL (Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) and LG, the development of which began this 12 months – in keeping with the minister.
In the past, CATL collaborated with state-owned mining company Antam and Indonesia’s Battery Corporation (IBC) to construct a battery plant in North Maluku for $5.97 billion, or 85.77 trillion rupiah.
With a 32.6% lithium-ion battery market share, CATL is the biggest manufacturer of electrical vehicle batteries on the earth.
The construction of projects including nickel mining and battery components, recycling and the installation of battery factories for electric vehicles and electric motorcycles can be carried out by CATL, Antam and IBC.
The minister stated: “This is form of a priority for the federal government to create products that deal with green energy and green industries.
Lahadalia added that the federal government is developing essentially the most suitable and competitive facilities for investors to advertise the Indonesian electric vehicle battery ecosystem.
To speed up the battery electric vehicle (BEV) program, the federal government adopted Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019.
Through the Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 27 of 2020 on technical specifications, roadmap for electric vehicles and calculation of the national component level, a roadmap for the event of the electrical vehicle industry (TKDN) was also created.
The government hopes to provide 2.45 million two-wheeled electric vehicles and 600,000 electric vehicles with a minimum of 4 wheels by 2030. It is anticipated that 398,530 units of two-wheeled electric cars and 132,983 units of four-wheeled electric vehicles can be purchased, respectively.
