VinFast expands regional presence with $1.2 billion investment in Indonesian electric vehicle plant

VinFast, the pioneering Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, will arrange a production facility in Indonesia with an investment of 18.6 trillion Indian rupees (roughly $1.2 billion), Indonesian President Moeldoko’s Chief of Staff revealed.

During Monday’s press conference, Moeldoko announced that construction of the plant will begin as soon as possible. However, no specific details of the plan were disclosed.

Being considered one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers in Southeast Asia, VinFast has gained recognition for exporting its vehicles to Europe and America. According to Moeldoko, the investment in Indonesia is predicted to contribute to the event of the electrical vehicle ecosystem within the country.

Indonesian media reports indicate that in early September, VinFast management entered into talks with Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan. The minister provided support to facilitate the functioning of the automobile manufacturer.

Kukuh Kumara, Secretary General of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), told Antara News Agency in late October that VinFast had expressed interest in joining the association. He added that the manufacturer was within the strategy of completing the crucial procedures with the Indonesian government before officially entering the country’s automotive market.
