Bumi’s journey marks a milestone in regenerative tourism with the Blue Conservation Tour on the sensitive island

On Saturday, September 30, 2023, Bumi Journey achieved a big milestone by successfully launching the Blue Conservation Tour on Pramuka Island in Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta. The aim of this project is to actively contribute to the preservation of each the natural and cultural features of this pristine place.

During this event, the important theme was Bumi Journey’s commitment to environmental protection and community involvement. The organization has developed priceless partnerships with local communities on Pulau Pramuka, protecting fragile ecosystems while facilitating meaningful cultural exchanges and promoting sustainable and regenerative tourism practices.

On this occasion, Bumi Journey had the distinction of hosting a gaggle of scholars from the Sydney University of Technology, providing them with a really spectacular tour experience. Participants had a novel opportunity to deepen their understanding of coastal biodiversity and climate resilience through an interesting climate education session led by the Bumi Journey team.

The Blue Conservation Tour exemplifies the harmonious coexistence of the natural world and cultural exploration, offering a comprehensive insight into the challenges and solutions of climate resilience on a small island.

“All participants thoroughly enjoyed the climate session, mangrove planting and planting, coral planting, snorkeling and plastic upcycling workshops. Everyone returned home with big smiles and with greater awareness and understanding of the importance of various conservation activities for the sustainable development of our planet,” said Darmadi Sipayung, Participant Engagement Manager for the International Internship.

After an informative climate session, participants actively contributed to mangrove conservation through hands-on activities, including mangrove seedlings and planting along the important thing coastline of Pramuka Island. The tour also included coral conservation initiatives, highlighting the importance of protecting underwater ecosystems and promoting sustainable marine practices, all of which were seamlessly integrated into program activities.

“Nature, unity and joy – these three elements intertwine perfectly during our trip to Pulau Pramuka. Our connection with nature deepened as we explored the island and its vibrant marine life, while also learning about waste management efforts on the island. There was a real sense of community among travelers and locals. The joy and happiness we shared during the trip helped make this trip extraordinary,” said Devira, certainly one of the facilitators of Bumi Journey on this trip.

Blue Conservation Trip participants had a novel opportunity to have interaction directly with the area people through a series of fascinating trips. These included learning about Marawis performances and attending plastic upcycling workshops.
