According to Opensignal’s latest report on 5G mobile experience within the Asia-Pacific region, South Korea dominates in all three speed metrics: 5G download speed, 5G peak download speed and 5G upload speed. Users in South Korea were the one ones within the region to see average 5G download speeds exceeding 300 Mbps, with some reaching 438 Mbps.
Taiwan and New Zealand are statistically tied for second place by way of 5G download speeds with results of 263.1 Mbps and 253 Mbps. Taiwan also ranks second in peak 5G download speeds (614Mbps) together with Australia (597.8Mbps) and clearly ranks second in 5G upload speeds of 30Mbps.
The recent 5G spectrum is more limited in Southeast Asia than in South Korea, Japan or Australia, which explains slower speeds across the board. Singapore overtook the Philippines and Indonesia on this category. Singapore, however, advantages from a compact metropolitan topography that ought to facilitate 5G deployment.

Our consumers reported that the common 5G download speed was 8.9 times faster than the common 4G download speed within the Philippines. When it involves mobile video streaming, Filipino users using 5G in comparison with 4G achieved a 33 percent higher video quality rating. Indonesia also ranked second in video quality improvement, scoring 29% higher.
Thanks to 5G, users in all ten markets saw a big increase in average download speeds. Users in Thailand saw a 7.5x increase in speeds, while users in Taiwan experienced a 7.2x increase.
Even in developed markets where high-quality 4G networks are present, 5G customers have experienced significant speed increases. For example, South Korean users experienced 6.3 times faster connection speeds, Singaporeans experienced 4 times faster connection speeds, and Japanese users experienced 3.4 times faster connection speeds.
As operators expand the scope of their 5G offerings, 5G technology continues to mature. Increasing indoor signal propagation and coverage in rural areas by utilizing lower frequency bands for 5G or deploying 5G in recent spectrum bands that improve speed and capability – if mid or higher frequencies – or deploying 5G in recent spectrum bands that improve speed and bandwidth – if lower frequency bands are used.
