The preliminary rankings for 2022 have been published by Henley & Partners, with Japan and Singapore topping the list.
Asian powers have visa-free or visa-free access to 192 countries, although this doesn’t keep in mind all travel restrictions imposed by the continuing epidemic.
Singapore and Japan top the rating of the world’s strongest passports as of early Q4 2021.
After Singapore, Malaysia has Southeast Asia’s strongest passport, with 179 visa-free destinations. Rounding out the remaining of the index (46) are Brunei (166 destinations), Thailand (79), Indonesia (71), the Philippines (65), Cambodia (53) and Myanmar (50).
Germany and South Korea are in second place with 190 points each. Depending on the way you interpret the rankings, Australia ranks seventh together with Canada, the Czech Republic, Greece and Malta.
The usual suspect – Afghanistan – is at the underside. Only 26 countries are visa-free for his or her residents. The bottom three are Iraq and Syria.
The Henley Passport Index measures 199 passports and 227 destinations based on data from the International Air Transport Association.
The index was originally published 17 years ago and summarizes the most recent findings. Since then, disparities in travel access have been widening.
