Vietnam will begin construction on Tuesday of the primary phase of its largest airport near its economic hub, Ho Chi Minh City, because it looks to speed up public investment to support economic growth amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The government said in a press release on its website that the primary phase of Long Thanh Airport in Dong Nai Province will cost AU$4.66 billion ($5.97 billion) and will probably be operational from 2025.
It will include a four-kilometer runway, terminal and related facilities that can give you the chance to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually, it says.
“The construction of the airport is an important step towards stimulating public investment and limiting the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy,” Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said in a press release.

The government said the complete project, when fully operational, will give you the chance to handle 100 million passengers a yr and its construction cost will probably be $16 billion.
It will grow to be a key transit hub for international passengers, the federal government said, adding that nearby Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which has been congested since 2015, will probably be used as a domestic airport.
