A Vietnamese tycoon has donated 1000’s of face masks and private protective equipment to the Department of Foreign Affairs to assist the country fight the rapidly spreading Covid-19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.
DFA in an announcement said its frontline employees received greater than 750,000 face masks and 16,500 pieces of private protective equipment from Vietnamese tycoon and philanthropist Johnathan Hanh Nguyen.
The department said the donation was brought into the country on a charter flight arranged by Nguyen with the assistance of the Department of Finance, Customs and other government agencies.
He made the donation to Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin Jr. Johnathan’s son, Henry Nguyen, in a ceremony held at DFA in Pasay City.
The handover ceremony was also attended by DFA Undersecretary Brigido Dulay, DFA Deputy Secretary Meynardo Montealegre, and Nguyen Hong Hanh and Vu Anh Son, chargé d’affaires and first secretary, respectively, of the Embassy of Vietnam in Manila.

According to DFA, Nguyen “played a key role” in organizing the primary direct flight between Manila and Ho Chi Minh City in 1985. The tycoon lived within the Philippines when he was younger, in response to his company’s website.
He can also be the CEO and founding father of IMEX Pan Pacific Group, one in every of Vietnam’s leading multi-industry corporations with luxury retail, food and beverage brands. His son Henry is the president of the Corporation’s Philippines branch (IPPG-Philippines).
