Cambodia receives rapid Covid-19 test kits and medical examiners from China

The Ministry of Health has intensified preparations to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19 disease within the Kingdom with the assistance of the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba, which donated 20,000 test kits to the Kingdom.

On March 28, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian presented the kits to Cambodian Health Minister Mam Bun Heng.

Quoting Wang, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia said in a Facebook post on Sunday that China and Cambodia share a standard fate.

The post said that each countries wish to share pain and joy, and compared their bond to that of siblings. Currently, China and Cambodia share similar sentiments, the post continues.

Wang said: “To enhance Covid-19 screening capability, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has partnered with the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation to urgently provide testing kits to Cambodia.

“We hope to assist provide Cambodia with the manpower to fight this latest variety of virus. “China will proceed to assist Cambodia as best as it could actually to fight the virus.”

Quoting Bun Heng, the web site of the Ministry of Information said on Sunday that the Ministry of Health had taken needed measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 and stop further infections.

He said: “Medical equipment has just arrived to support our efforts to stop and prevent the virus in time. We would like to thank the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba for this assistance.”

Health Ministry spokesman Or Vandine told The Post on Sunday that it must wait for clear instructions from the World Health Organization on the right way to proceed within the fight against the virus.

She said, “So it’s good that we got this equipment. However, we still have to wait a little longer for clear instructions.”

China has given a variety of support to Cambodia this month.

On March 19, Wuxi Techstar Technology Co Ltd and China’s Bacterial Molecular Medicine Laboratory donated 3,000 Covid-19 test kits to the Kingdom.

On March 22, the China-Asia Economic Development Association donated 100,000 medical masks. On March 23, China sent seven medical examiners from the Guangxi autonomous region to Cambodia together with N95 protective masks, protective clothing and goggles.

On March 25, cops received 200 sets of protective clothing and 500 pairs of medical gloves.

At a gathering with volunteer medical staff on March 25, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that China believes that greater than 4 tons of kit is just the primary stage. China will provide more materials to Cambodia if needed, Hun Sen said.

He said: “China has experience in fighting the virus. Everyone fought this in Wuhan and succeeded.”
