A coastal city in southwest India, a medieval city in Portugal and a region within the northern Philippines home to the world’s most famous sunsets were probably the most talked about destinations in TripAdvisor during the last 12 months.
The world’s largest travel platform announced on Tuesday the winners of the 2020 Travelers’ Choice Destination awards, which recognize destinations which have seen the best increase in positive reviews and rankings.
It is set by an algorithm that measures the year-over-year increase in Tripadvisor traveler positive rankings for accommodations, restaurants and attractions, and the rise in booking and search interest in various destinations around the globe.
Last 12 months, Kochi, a port city in southwest India, saw the biggest increase in five-star reviews, rankings and traveler interest on TripAdvisor.
It was closely followed by Luzon, the plush, green region of the Philippines home to the capital Manila, and Porto, a historic city in northern Portugal full of winding cobblestone streets and among the world’s best wine cellars. Daily Mail from Australia recorded.
Other Southeast Asian destinations that made the list include Lombok (Indonesia) and Da Nang (Vietnam). Lombok, Indonesia, is a preferred destination for those on the lookout for a laid-back vacation with fewer crowds than nearby Bali (just take a ferry). The island is home to stunning beaches and world-class diving sites, in addition to countless climbing opportunities that take you to waterfalls and even a volcano.
Da Nang has the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Lombok, but has limestone caves, Buddhist grottoes within the Marble Mountains, and native Vietnamese spicy street food.
