According to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Malaysia’s largest ever foreign technology spending will likely be RM25.5 billion ($5.7 billion) by 2037.
Thanks to fast access to AWS services, the investment will include cloud computing infrastructure with three availability zones for secure data storage and application support.
According to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the investment will help Malaysia establish itself as an information and digital hub in Southeast Asia, opening the door for local firms to grow and expand globally.
In a recorded speech delivered at AWS Malaysia Cloud Day on Thursday, he said: “Today’s announcement is a vote of confidence and support for Malaysia’s leadership in the global digital economy, and we look forward to deepening our partnership with AWS to advance our country’s digital growth. economic purposes” (March 2).
The Prime Minister says Silverlake Axis, a Malaysian technology and finance company, used AWS to digitize and modernize 25 applications to offer state-of-the-art services to customers.
He also mentioned Pos Malaysia Bhd, which has managed to maneuver beyond conventional mail and parcel delivery by moving to the cloud to supply retail, logistics and other cutting-edge goods and services.
AWS Regional Executive Director for Global Public Sector in ASEAN, Eric Conrad, told Bernama that the investment in Malaysia would support the country’s digital economy.
Conrad added that Amazon selected Malaysia to assist its existing customers expand their cloud infrastructure.
Conrad also mentioned that AWS desires to help the Malaysian government acquire the knowledge and skills mandatory to adopt cloud technology at a better level and improve data-driven decision-making.
Our customers are increasingly telling us that they would love to bring their workload and, in some cases, their data closer to meeting their requirements, and we now have seen the pace of adoption significantly speed up lately.
He continued: “We have complied with their request and decided that now’s the correct time to take a position on this infrastructure.
AWS financing will profit small and medium-sized enterprises in Malaysia and enhance the country’s competitiveness.
The recent AWS region will provide developers, startups, business owners, educational institutions and non-profit groups with more options for hosting applications and providing customer support from Malaysian data centers.
In addition to considering local vendors for the actual construction and development of all infrastructure, AWS can even consider staffing in data centers.
