For over a decade, CrescentRating has been developing various initiatives to assist destinations and repair providers higher understand and deliver value in the worldwide Muslim tourism market. These include assessment and accreditation systems, Halal-in-Travel conferences, training and certification, in addition to annual reports reminiscent of the Global Muslim Travel Index.
In 2009, CrescentRating identified six key faith-based needs that influence the consumption behavior of Muslim travelers. They were:
1) Halal food
2) Prayer facilities
3) Ramadan services
4) Water-friendly toilets
5) Prohibition of non-halal activities i
6) Recreational facilities and services that ensure privacy
While the study confirmed the six needs identified in 2009, it also revealed three latest ‘needs’.
1) No Islamophobia
2) Social causes i
3) Local Muslim experience.
For the primary time, Indonesia, together with Malaysia, ranks because the world’s top halal travel destination in line with the Mastercard-Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2019. Crescent Rating and Halal Trip CEO Fazal Bahardeen said Indonesia’s achievement was the results of numerous efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism, reminiscent of investing within the tourism and travel industry and developing halal infrastructure for Muslim tourists.
This report covers 130 destinations, each from world wide and from countries inside the International Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and countries outside the OIC. The same report suggests that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman and Brunei Darussalam remain popular amongst global Muslim tourists.
The same report also shows that Singapore maintains its place as a halal tourism destination amongst non-OKI countries, followed by Thailand, England, Japan and Taiwan. The report examines the common sense and development of Muslim-friendly tourist destinations based on their accessibility, communications, environment and services.
