Apple plans a $250 million expansion in Singapore to write down a “latest chapter” in the corporate’s history in town

Apple announced plans to pump greater than A$340 million ($250 million) into the expansion of its Ang Mo Kio campus in Singapore.

Two buildings purchased in 2022, adjoining to the prevailing offices, will undergo thorough modernization. This will bring “three unique spaces together to support greater collaboration amongst Apple’s growing teams,” the tech giant said in an announcement on Wednesday.

Construction is scheduled to start out this 12 months.

Singapore serves as Apple’s central operations center within the region and plays key roles in software, hardware, services and support.

“The new expansion is a milestone in Apple’s more than four decades of creating jobs and deep connections to its local community, and will provide space for growth and new roles in artificial intelligence and other key capabilities,” Apple said.

The company opened its first facility in Singapore in 1981 with 72 employees and has since grown to a team of over 3,600 people.

According to Apple, it supports greater than 60,000 jobs through direct employment, its supply chain and IOS app economy.

There are three Apple Store locations in Singapore.

The company has also modernized its facilities and laboratories over the past 10 years, including increasing space in its hardware technology center by 50 percent since 2019.

Like all of its facilities, the expanded campus will remain fully operational renewable energy– the corporate said.

Since 2020, the corporate has been carbon neutral in its corporate operations, and since 2018, all its facilities use 100% renewable energy.

On Wednesday, Apple’s CEO also said the corporate would consider constructing a producing facility in Indonesiaafter meeting with the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

Currently, it has no production plants within the country, but since 2018 it has been creating application developer academies.
