At a news conference, investigators said that they had 90 percent of the cockpit voice recorder data needed to compile a final report on the crash, which is anticipated to be released in August.
Nurcahyo Utomo, an investigator with Indonesia’s national transport commission, said the footage showed there was “panic” within the cockpit for the last 20 seconds of the flight.
“At the top of the flight, it gave the look of the pilot was not able to keep up the flight, after which panic broke out,” he said, declining to say which of the 2 pilots panicked.

Investigators looking into the Indonesian crash are questioning, amongst other things, how a pc ordered the plane to dive in response to data from a faulty sensor and whether the pilots had enough training to reply appropriately in an emergency.
The report concluded that the crew didn’t provide the doomed pilots with all information in regards to the problems they encountered.
On Thursday, investigators confirmed that an off-duty third pilot was within the cockpit that evening. This was not mentioned within the initial report since the pilot had not been interviewed at that stage as they worked to quickly issue a report, Utomo said.
According to 2 sources, the flight control problems were resolved by the captain of full-service sister carrier Lion Air, Batik Air.

The transportation commission said the pilot was qualified to fly the 737 MAX 8, but didn’t say what airline he worked for or what role he played in helping the crew.
Investigators said the cockpit voice recording on that flight was deleted during maintenance performed before the plane’s final flight.
