The messaging app created by 25-year-old Novi Wayuningsih from Kebumen Regency in Central Java was officially launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information in Jakarta on April 21, coinciding with Kartini Day.
The Calling Indonesia (Callind) app allows users to conduct private chats, send messages, photos and videos, in addition to make phone and video calls.
Additionally, it also supports those that need to advertise and sell or buy products.
According to tribunews.com, The app was officially launched in 2016 and has to this point been downloaded 100,000 times in 15 countries from the Google App Store. There are plans to make Callind available to iOS users.
The graduate of the accounting diploma program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Novi is the CEO of three IT corporations in Semarang, Central Java and Jakarta.
However, before her success, Novi was almost unable to proceed her education after highschool because her parents’ company went bankrupt. Determined to assist her family, she continued her education at UGM, from working as a multi-level marketing (MLM) agent to working at a web café.
In her most up-to-date job, she drew inspiration from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma. Motivated by these men, she began teaching herself programming, starting with creating her own website.
After graduating from UGM, Novi worked in 2011 at a Malaysian IT company that focused on creating social networking sites. She used this experience to realize more knowledge as she desired to develop her own social media app.
A 12 months later, she founded PT Wahyu Global Abadi in Kebumen, which focuses on software development and hardware maintenance, and in addition cooperates with government institutions and personal corporations.
She used the proceeds to determine two other IT corporations, namely PT Rise Solution International and PT Callind Network International.
Her dream got here true when she finally created the Callind app in March 2016.
