Datuk Seri Doktor Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister today, making her the primary woman within the country to carry the distinguished position.
The People’s Justice Party president, who was also appointed Minister of Women’s Affairs, led 12 other ministers in being sworn in by Sultan Yang di-Pertuan Agong Muhammad V on the Istana Negara here.
Dr Wan Azizah wore an off-white floral print baju kurung with a lightweight pink tudung while taking the oath of office and was accompanied by her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the palace.
She won the Pandan MP seat within the polls, replacing PKR’s Rafizi Ramli.
Others include Mohamed Sabu (Parti Amanah Negara) as Defense Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Parti Asli Bersatu Malaysia) as Home Affairs Minister and Anthony Loke (DAP) as Transport Minister.
Dr Maszlee Malik (Pribumi) was sworn in as Education Minister, which sparked controversy as Dr Mahathir first appointed himself to the position after which stepped down when he realized it was contrary to Pakatan’s election manifesto which stated that the Prime Minister he mustn’t hold another ministerial position.

Kulasegaran (DAP) was sworn in as Minister of Human Resources, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Amanah) as Minister of Health, Gobind Singh Deo as Minister of Communications and Multimedia, and Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR) as Minister of Housing and Local Government.
Finally, Salahuddin Ayub (Amanah) was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Rina Harun (Pribumi) as Minister of Rural Development.
