Soon get R&D centers in Ho Chi Minh City and India

To increase its competitiveness within the region, Southeast Asian ride-hailing app Grab is establishing recent R&D centers in Vietnam and India.

According to Technical breakdowntwo recent engineering centers in Saigon and Bangalore, India, will probably be the fifth and sixth such locations on this planet.

Last month, Grab also opened one other center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Saigon-based R&D center will concentrate on developing local enhancements to the corporate’s services, while the Bangalore center’s primary focus will probably be on payment services.

At this stage, Grab’s Saigon center will start operating with a team of 25 people. Its counterparts in Jakarta and Bangalore will employ 150 and 200 employees, respectively. The shipping company said it plans to create about 800 recent research and development jobs at its centers in Beijing, Bengaluru, Jakarta, Saigon, Singapore and Seattle over the following two years.

“Opening an R&D center here is a nod to Vietnam, which is becoming one of the hot spots for tech talent in the region,” Grab Vietnam CEO Jerry Lim said in a press release. “Southeast Asia is growing at a breakneck pace, and we have an unprecedented opportunity to deliver a platform that meets regional mobile-first environmental and infrastructure needs.”

Grab currently employs roughly 710,000 drivers in 39 cities across six Southeast Asian countries. The application has been downloaded as many as 36 million times on all mobile platforms.
