With a rating of 95 out of 100, Malaysia was ranked first within the World’s Best Healthcare category within the 2019 International Living Annual Global Retirement Index.
According to International Living, among the many top six countries within the World’s Best Healthcare category this yr, Malaysia took first place with world-class healthcare services and advanced infrastructure.
It said that with 13 hospitals within the country accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), just about all doctors – most of whom had been trained within the UK, US and Australia – were fluent in English, making communication seamless.
“Both private and public hospitals are available to expatriates, depending on their needs, although private hospitals are usually slightly more expensive but are more in line with Western standards than public hospitals,” he said, adding that even in private hospitals, treatment was reasonably priced for minor visits.

“Here (Malaysia), you needn’t make an appointment with a specialist, you do not need a referral out of your GP. It’s so simple as registering at the chosen hospital and waiting in line to see the chosen specialist,” they wrote.
“Prescriptions in Malaysia cost a fraction of what you pay at home. But not only the value is attractive – service also counts.
“Pharmacists, like the remainder of the medical staff in Malaysia, are well trained and informed. “Malaysians are a friendly people, but what’s impressive is their real interest,” it said.
