Sessions Court Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin on Tuesday convicted 39-year-old Oo Saw Kee and fined her 6,000 ringgit ($1,255) after she pleaded guilty to the crime.
Passing sentence, Ahzal said what Oo did was serious, cruel and inhumane, especially towards a disabled person.
He stated that there was no provocation on the a part of the injured party in the course of the incident.
“In this case, the court must take into account the public interest, not the personal interest of the accused,” he said on the court in Balik Pulau on Tuesday.
Oo, a sales promoter, had previously pleaded guilty to intentionally causing serious injury for pouring hot water on 33-year-old A. Solairaj in an elevator at a block of flats in Bayan Lepas, Penang on April 19 at 9.24am, causing severe burns.
She was charged under Art. 326 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which is punishable by imprisonment for as much as 20 years, in addition to a positive or caning upon conviction.
Police reportedly arrested Oo on Friday evening, with acting police chief Jafri Md Zain telling reporters that the 39-year-old suspect was detained at 9:21 p.m.
“The woman lives in the estate and was temporarily arrested today [April 20] to facilitate investigation into the incident,” he said.
The attack occurred when A. Solairaj was returning home to his apartment on the sixteenth floor.

The victim was taken to Penang Hospital and doctors later confirmed that he had suffered burns to the back and front of his right side from the boiling water.
His condition is reportedly stable.
A 20-second video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with users condemning the girl’s actions.
Oo was represented within the case by lawyer Edric Loo, who acted pro bono, and Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Noordin Ismail acted on behalf of the prosecution.
