State-owned telecommunications company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom Indonesia) plans to launch its Telkom 4 satellite into orbit next yr, replacing the Telkom 1 satellite.
“We have signed an agreement to launch the Telkom 4 satellite. It will be launched from the United States in August 2018.” – said Alex J. Sinaga, CEO of PT Telkom, through the press conference.
Telkom 4 is manufactured by Space Systems Loral (SSL) and shall be launched by SpaceX. It shall be equipped with transponders for the domestic market and a few shall be sold in India.
Alex said the name of the satellite continues to be uncertain as his company continues to be considering possible names. The satellite, which shall be placed within the 108 BT orbital slot where Telkom 1 currently resides, may have a 15-year lifespan, much like Telkom 1.
“Telkom will be closely monitoring the progress of Telkom 4 to ensure the satellite launches as planned,” Alex said.
