An encouraging variety of Asian countries were featured in lifestyle publication International Livings’ (IL) list of the world’s best places to retire in 2019.
The IL Global Retirement Index, which covers the highest 25 countries on the earth where retirees settle and save, highlights places where retired couples could live comfortably on $1,800 or less a month.
However, while most Asian countries offered attractive pension programs, especially for Westerners, Latin American countries dominated the highest ten.
For the tenth 12 months in a row, Panama has been named the world’s best place to retire as a result of its proximity to the United States, use of American currency, large English-speaking population and tropical climate.
Panama was overtaken by regional neighbors Costa Rica, Mexico and Ecuador, which took second, third and fourth place, respectively.
However, one popular Asian country made the highest 10 list and one other made its debut for the primary time.
According to AFPTo compile the list of the 25 best places to retire, the editors take note of 13 criteria: buying and investing, renting, advantages and discounts for seniors, visas and residence, cost of living, equipment, entertainment and amenities, health care, healthy lifestyle, development, climate, opportunities and management.
Jennifer Stevens, editor-in-chief of “IL”, points out that retirees concentrate to their priorities when on the lookout for a spot to call home.
“Ask yourself: ‘What is most important to me in a paradise abroad?’ Maybe it’s the good weather all year round. Maybe it’s the proximity to the US. Perhaps this is due to the low cost of living. Perhaps it’s the ease with which you fit in. Perhaps it’s about access to the highest quality health care at a low price. These are among the many features we take into account when developing our annual Index,” she said in a press release.
As for why Panama topped the list, the country is described because the “jewel of Central America” that matches right into a small area: a dynamic eclectic capital, beaches and forested valleys.
Offering a special retirement visa for individuals with a lifetime monthly pension of at the very least $1,000, Panama gives seniors special discounts on all the pieces from medical consultations to movie tickets. MALAYSIA

Hockton added that health care prices, especially for surgery, are low-cost in comparison with the United States.
THAILAND
Thailand, which debuted in the highest ten on the list, is positioned between Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia and enjoys warm coastlines of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
“It’s a country that has never been colonized by any Western or European country, so Thailand’s culture is untouched, rich and ancient. Moreover, it is an ideal place for expat life,” noted Rachel Devlin, IL Chiang Mai correspondent.
Devlin said rents in Thailand could be as little as $400 a month for a contemporary studio apartment, and utility bills are also less expensive because the monthly water bill can average $32.
“Thailand usually has a humid tropical climate. There are no cold winters here. Perfect for people who like swimming and sun. People suffering from arthritis find great relief in this climate,” she said.
“There are many modern private hospitals in Thailand. Medical practice based on current medical knowledge, and visits to a family doctor can cost as little as $10.”
CAMBODIA
Cambodia, ranked twelfth on the list, was only one place behind France, with a final rating of 81.2 within the categories “Visas & Residents”, “Healthcare”, “Climate” and “Cost of Living”.
VIETNAM
Vietnam finished nineteenth overall, just behind Ireland and ahead of Uruguay, with a final rating of 78.6.
SRI LANKA
With a final rating of 77.4, Sri Lanka placed twenty first after Uruguay and ahead of the Dominican Republic.
