Meanwhile, consistent with improved business expectations, applications from foreigners for higher-skilled work passes increased, Tuesday’s report showed.

Despite the decline in nonresident employment, total employment in the town rose by 4,900 in the primary quarter, marking the tenth straight month of growth, although growth slowed from 7,500 within the previous quarter.

In March, overall unemployment rose barely to 2.1 percent, and the unemployment rate for residents and long-term residents rose to three percent and three.1 percent, respectively.

The ministry said the upper unemployment rate within the last quarter was not unexpected as data predicted larger cuts within the second half of 2023.
