On October 29, the Thi Vai liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal project with a capability of 1 million tons was inaugurated and launched in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province in Vietnam.
The project is financed by Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS), a subsidiary of Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), in cooperation with joint ventures Samsung C&T Corporation and Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).
The LNG receiving terminal is the most important and most advanced in Vietnam and includes facilities able to handling vessels as much as 100,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT), storage tanks with a capability of 180,000 cubic meters, a gas pipeline system and a fancy operations center.
In the initial phase, the terminal could have an LNG storage capability of 1 million tons per yr, which can be increased to three million tons at a later stage. Its LNG liquefaction is able to reaching 171 tons per hour. LNG from this facility can be distributed to customers via pipelines, tankers or satellite storage facilities.
The Thi Vai LNG Terminal is a component of the implementation of Resolution No. 55 issued by the Vietnam Politburo on February 11, 2020. The resolution focuses on the direction of the National Energy Development Strategy of Vietnam until 2030 with a vision until 2045. The essential goal of this resolution is to realize country’s energy security. On the opposite hand, its motion may even support the federal government’s commitment to realize net zero emissions by 2050.
During the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that Vietnam has been working hard in recent times to develop a contemporary and efficient energy infrastructure. According to him, natural gas and gas products are one in every of the clean, protected, efficient and convenient sources of energy.
With plenty of gas infrastructure facilities already operational, resembling the Ca Mau and Phu My gas-fired fertilizer complexes and the soon-to-be accomplished BO Mon Block gas project, Petrovietnam and PV GAS are expected to proceed to make a big contribution to local revenues , job creation and economic restructuring.
Quang described the Thi Vai LNG Terminal as a very important facility supporting the federal government’s policy on national energy development and energy transformation. He also urged Petrovietnam and its subsidiaries to speed up construction in order that the LNG project can come online on schedule and help achieve national LNG development goals.
Quang also stressed the necessity to speed up investment in Son My LNG’s energy supply chain and other key oil projects. This reflects the federal government’s commitment to supporting the event of oil energy projects that deal with environmental and sustainability features.
