Singapore has retained its position because the world’s second safest city after Tokyo, in line with the newest edition of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Safe Cities Index (SCI).
The index, which covers 60 countries on five continents, includes greater than 50 qualitative and quantitative indicators divided into 4 security categories: digital, infrastructure, health and private, in line with Times of the Strait.
Singapore was ranked first on this planet for each infrastructure and private security, and second for digital security. In the previous editions of the index in 2017 and 2015, Singapore also ranked second twice.
“Overall, while wealth is one of the most important determinants of safety, levels of transparency – and governance – correlate as closely as income does with index scores,” said EIU senior editor Naka Kondo, editor of this yr’s report on the Safe Cities Index, as quoted Asia News Channel.
The report found that cities that performed well overall tended to have high-quality healthcare, specialized cybersecurity teams, local police and disaster business continuity planning.
