The suggested area will include Iskandar Malaysia and Pengerang on the state’s eastern coast, Johor Prime Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi told the state assembly on Sunday.
If this happens, the Johor-Singapore special economic zone might be almost twice the dimensions of China’s Shenzhen and may have an area of 3,505 km2.
“I’m sure with help [special economic zone]“Johor may become the Shenzhen of Southeast Asia,” Onn Hafiz said, in keeping with The Star.
“Geographically, Shenzhen-Hong Kong is quite similar to Johor-Singapore.”

Johor proposes to create 16 economic sectors under the zone, including electrical and electronics, manufacturing, healthcare and tourism, he said.
“Secretary Meng shared with us her recipe for success: governance reforms to reduce bureaucracy and increase transparency, with an emphasis on openness to policy changes, technology and knowledge transfer, and innovation to remain competitive,” said Onn Hafiz.
Iskandar Malaysia is a 2,217 sq km economic corridor established in 2006, encompassing most of Johor’s strategic infrastructure and real estate projects.
Pengerang is home to the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, a serious petrochemical facility that features the Pengerang Energy Complex being built by Singaporean company ChemOne Holdings Pte.
