AirAsia is expanding its Asia-Asia coverage with 4 weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) to Silangit Airport in Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Indonesia, starting October 28, 2018.
Silangit Airport is the primary gateway to the magnificent Lake Toba, the biggest volcanic lake within the Asean region and probably the most beautiful lakes on this planet.
This is AirAsia’s twenty first route from Malaysia to Indonesia.
“As a really Asean airline, we try to attach more people and more places on this region we call home. I actually have all the time said that Indonesia is far more than simply Bali.
“Our new flight from Kuala Lumpur to Silangit is in line with our commitment to support the Government of Indonesia in the development of 10 priority tourism destinations, including Lake Toba,” AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said on the launch, Bernama reported.
He hoped that this tour would emulate the group’s success in Bandung.
“When we started flying there, no other airline flew to Bandung. After we started, other airlines, including local airlines, started following us.”
Fernandes said AirAsia not only connects travelers to Indonesia’s hidden treasures, but additionally invests in the event of sustainable tourism, working closely with all stakeholders to preserve the natural fantastic thing about Lake Toba through green initiatives.
The announcement of the brand new travel direction was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan; Acting Director General of Air Transport, Pramintohadi Sukarno; and the special staff of the Minister of Tourism for Tourism Infrastructure, Judi Rifajantoro.
Also present were AirAsia Group Bhd executive chairman and AirAsia X Co-Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and AirAsia Indonesia CEO Dendy Kurniawan.
