Eco-friendly Thai International School Panyaden has added a surprising latest sports hall to its campus, built entirely of bamboo, which keeps Chiang Mai, Thailand naturally cool all 12 months round. Designed by Chiangmai Life Construction, the Bamboo sports hall contains a modern, organic design that pulls inspiration from the lotus flower. The large, multi-use facility was built to face up to local natural forces, including high-speed winds and earthquakes, and has a zero carbon footprint.
Completed this 12 months, the Bamboo Sports Hall has an organic, lotus-like shape and is a nod to Panyaden International School’s use of Buddhist values in its academic curriculum. Its undulating shape also reflects the encircling hilly topography. The 782-square-meter open-air constructing is supported by a series of arches and topped by three circular petal-shaped roofs, raised at the sides to offer natural ventilation and indirect light.

The multi-purpose facility can accommodate 300 students and includes futsal, basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, in addition to an robotically raised stage and a storage room for sports and theater equipment. Observation balconies surround the sports area and stage.

“Here we show how bamboo can create an area 15 meters wide and high with none steel reinforcements,” wrote the architects. “From the skin it looks prefer it grew there or morphed from one in every of the hills within the background right into a human product. In fact, the Panyaden International School Sports Hall is a mixture of careful artistic design, beautiful, detailed craftsmanship and solid construction.
